Calumet County Alcohol Traffic Safety Program

Designed, developed and presented by

The Calumet County Sheriff’s Department
New Holstein Police Department
Chilton Police Department

The above mentioned agencies will develop a program aimed at educating teen age drivers on the effects of alcohol use when driving.

In order to achieve this goal we plan to incorporate several diverse learning environments in this program, which will demonstrate the effects of consuming alcohol and driving.  These include the use of excerpts from a factual video called, “Just Call Me Crash”- The Denise Wagoner Story, available exclusively from Drunk Busters of America, L.L.C.  Denise shares a powerful message about drunk driving, drug abuse and alcoholism.  Secondly we will use Fatal Reflections® a software program that lets you dramatically demonstrate the physical injuries someone can sustain as a result of driving impaired or driving without wearing a seat belt.  By taking a picture of someone’s face with a digital camera, you select from a library of injury images and overlay the images on the picture.  You can print the modified picture with customized safety messages encouraging people to wear seatbelts or drive sober. It will be a valuable addition to this program as well as seat belt safety programs.   With this intensive educational experience teens will then be subjected to physical challenges, which will include the use of Fatal Vision® Goggles or Drunk Buster impaired vision glasses while operating a golf cart through a driving course that will simulate realistic driving conditions.  Teens will be video taped while driving through the course for viewing purposes afterward.  These learning experiences will be compiled and presented to larger audiences with the use of a Power Point Presentation.  These audiences will include civic, church and community groups.

The objective of this program is to reduce alcohol related accidents in all age groups throughout Calumet County.  Evaluation of the success of this program will be by analyzing alcohol related accident statistics involving Calumet County residents.
